On September 11, 2025, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) hosted the 2025 Asia-Pacific & Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards. This year’s competition received 503 project entries, representing a 12.2% increase compared to last year, with 399 outstanding cases selected after evaluation. CGPC was recognized with the Silver Award for its SDG 9 project, “Smart Manufacturing in Production Units by TVCM”, at the award ceremony held on the main stage of the Taipei World Trade Center, where President Chi-Hung Hu accepted the award on behalf of the company.
The award-winning project was promoted by TVCM, a subsidiary of CGPC, which actively integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its production processes to achieve smart manufacturing and digital transformation, delivering multiple sustainability benefits:
- Energy saving and carbon reduction: AI applied to distillation towers, saving approximately 2,356 tons of steam annually and reducing carbon emissions by around 328 tons.
- Enhanced stability: Intelligent monitoring of heat exchangers to predict scaling and degradation in advance and reduce unexpected downtime.
- Strengthen safety: Process safety monitoring can provide early warning about 11 hours in advance, reduce the risk of hydrogen chloride acid gas emissions.
By leveraging AI-driven real-time data analysis, TVCM has significantly reduced equipment failure and unplanned shutdown risks, while improving energy efficiency and operational stability. The project aligns with multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 9, 8,12, and 13). With high scalability, it has already been successfully applied to other distillation towers and gas treatment units, demonstrating the tangible impact of smart manufacturing.
CGPC will continue to uphold the Group’s vision of “Sustainability Value to create a sustainable society”, driving industrial upgrading through innovation and digital transformation, fulfilling its ESG commitments, and advancing towards more resilient sustainable development.
